The Somerset County Search and Rescue Team is a non-profit, volunteer organization chartered in Somerset County in 1986. The team currently has 26 active members, 4 operational search dogs, and 12 more dogs in various stages of training. We have members trained in specialty rescues such as Wilderness Rescue, Rope and High Angle Rescue, and Mantracking. We also have members trained as Paramedics, Emergency Medical Technicians, and Nationally Accredited Search Managers.
The team is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to respond to searches, rescues, and to assist other agencies both in and out of Somerset County and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. SCSAR is dispatched through Somerset County 911 at 1-800-362-5060.
The Somerset County Search and Rescue Team does not receive funding or grants from any source. All moneys generated for the team are done so by the team members through dues, fundraising events, and donations. Presently, all of the team expenses such as transportation costs, specialty equipment, and specialty training are paid for by the individual team members. |
