The Bedford Fire Department No. 1, Inc is an all volunteer fire department that is located in south central Pennsylvania in Bedford County. The Bedford Fire Department No. 1, Inc. was organized in 1804 and celebrated its 200th anniversary in 2004, making it one of the oldest fire departments in Pennsylvania. The Bedford Fire Department No. 1, Inc. has a primary response area of 147 square miles. The department covers two boroughs and five townships. This area includes several schools, nursing homes, industrial sites, churches, the Bedford county Airport, and the county seat of government for Bedford County, which includes all county office buildings and court house. The Fire Department also covers portions of major highways such as Interstate 99, The Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-76), US Route 30, and US Route 220.
